The Co-operative picked up the ‘Best Sports Sponsorship of the Year’ award last night at the inaugural Northern Sports Awards for its sponsorship of Activate Sport.
Generate, the UK’s fastest growing sponsorship consultancy, has worked with The Co-operative on its activation since the partnership began in 2009, which includes the sponsorship of 250 Activate Sport camps across the UK as well as the specialist Academies of sporting stars such as Andrew Flintoff, Lee Westwood, Annabel Croft and Matt Dawson.
“Receiving a Northern Sports Award for our sponsorship of Activate Sport is a fantastic achievement. As the UK’s leading community retailer, we chose to partner with Activate Sport as the camps take place in communities and promote participation for children, so sponsoring the programme is aligned with our brand and community values. The sponsorship has enabled us to provide thousands of free places to young people across the country and we are committed together with Activate Sport to inspire as many young people to lead an active and healthy lifestyle,” said Liz Matkin, The Co-operative’s Head of Sponsorship.
“We’re delighted to receive an award for our work with The Co-operative on its Activate Sport sponsorship. We’ve worked closely with both The Co-operative and Activate Sport over the past few years to grow the sponsorship and we’ve seen the partnership have a positive impact on achieving The Co-operative’s objectives. Properties such as access to high-profile sporting talent with media appeal and the tools to reach out to communities across the UK have created many opportunities for brand exposure in front of The Co-operative’s target audience,” said Rupert Pratt, Managing Director of Generate.
