CRUSADERS RL PREPARE FOR ENGAGE SUPER LEAGUE PLAY-OFFS WITH YOGA

For the first time in its history, Crusaders Rugby League, the Wrexham based Engage Super League club, qualified for the Engage Super League end of season play-offs last weekend. To help give a competitive edge in preparation for the must-win play off clash against rivals Huddersfield Giants this weekend, the Club held a yoga session on the training ground today (9 September).
The session, organised by Super League sponsor Engage Mutual as part of its ‘Engage with your health’ campaign, was designed to showcase the benefits for professional sportsmen of yoga, and will no doubt help ensure Engage Super League’s only Welsh team is at its strongest for the play-off battle this weekend.
The ancient art of Yoga, which dates back over 5000 years, has well documented benefits which could help rugby players. Renowned for improving physical, mental and emotional health, yoga helps improve flexibility by stretching muscles, lubricating joints and restoring blood flow into parts of the body exhausted by the strains of the regular Engage Super League season.
The postures in yoga also help to build core strength which, when held for long periods of time, helps maintain stamina and endurance, a key attribute for professional rugby players.
Yoga is also credited with boosting the immune system by rejuvenating vital organs and thereby helping players recover from injuries faster. Positive thinking is another yoga benefit, and the Crusaders will need to keep their nerve and stay as positive in their approach as possible as they strive to make it through the play-offs to reach the Engage Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on Saturday 2 October.
